Dog agility is so much fun! It is an ever growing competitive sport where a dog and its handler run a carefully designed course of obstacles including jumps, tunnels, dog walks, seesaws, A- frames and weave poles.
The handler must run the dog through the course in the correct sequence without making any mistakes and within the set time limit. Handlers are not allowed to use food or toys or touch the dog or the obstacles, they must direct the dog using their voice and signals alone.
Dogs can compete to gain qualifying scores which will lead to the dog gaining titles after its name. Agility requires a fantastic bond between the dog and the handler, and any breed of dog from Chihuahuas to Great Danes can be trained to take part.
Greencross Vets believe dogs need training and mental stimulation, and agility is just one of the many Dog Sports available.
