Di is the founder of Ballarat Family PetCare Clinic and the Creswick Family PetCare, both part of the Greencross group. With over 30 years of experience Di brings a lot to the table, having completed a course several years ago, which allows her to provide acupuncture, and other alternative medicines to the animals she so adores tending to. Diane has spent most of her career in Ballarat and particularly enjoys the close client relationship afforded by working in a smaller practice. Diane is passionate about providing the highest level of health care for the animal members of your family. She is also actively involved in many roles within the veterinary profession including Post-graduate studies, Internal Veterinary Acupuncture Society certificate and senior fellow/external examiner as well as local roles such as Commerce of Ballarat, which supports local businesses. Her drive, determination and thirst make her a successful business owner and a well-known and admired vet in the circle of her staff, colleagues and clientele.
Rachel graduated from University of Queensland in 1996, and has worked in both mixed animals and small animals in both the UK and Victoria since. She settled in Ballarat and joined the Greencross Ballarat family in 2002. She’s passionate about small animal medicine and surgery. Her hobbies include running her small farm complete with cows, sheep, chooks, dogs and cats, which she lives on with her husband Rod, and their 3 children: daughter Ella, and twin sons Sam and John. When not tending to that she enjoys running, gardening, hiking and travelling.
Barbara or “Barb” as she’s known for short, is another of the vets at the Ballarat Family PetCare Clinic. She has 24 years experience in mixed and small animal practices and joined the Greencross Ballarat team in 2007. She also is involved in Animal ethnics committees, such as DPI state committee and at the University of Ballarat. She enjoys needlework, gardening and reading and more often than not is found bringing in delicious baked goods to spoil the girls at the clinic!!
After completing her Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree at the University of Melbourne in 2010, Sarah joined the ranks of the Greencross Ballarat PetCare Clinic in early 2011 as our most junior Vet. During her studies, Sarah has worked in a wide range of veterinary clinics around Victoria and has developed a special interest in Feline Medicine, which she would love to pursue further. Having grown up in the South-East suburbs of Melbourne with her 3 feline friends; Pancake, Beau and Jonah, as well as two guinea pigs Chester and Hamish, Sarah is now settling into life in Ballarat with her housemate, who also completed his vet studies in 2010. In her spare time Sarah enjoys playing netball, going to the footy and spending time in Melbourne with her family and friends.
Practice Manager Lyn commenced her career in the Veterinary Industry nearly 30 years ago at the University of Melbourne, Werribee. There she oversaw the Clinic and Hospital's Pharmacy. Her love and empathy for animals and clients saw her go on to achieve her qualifications as a Veterinary Nurse, working in a few clinics around Melbourne. Lyn has a passion in the fields of Emergency and Critical care, and Small Animal Medicine. She hopes to eventually continue her love and insatiable appetite for knowledge, and finish her advanced studies in these advanced fields. Lyn joined the dynamic team at Greencross Ballarat PetCare clinic in August 2004 undertaking a new and challenging role as Office Administrator. When she is not working, Lyn spends most of her time, along with husband Ron, in Breeding and Showing German Shepherds. A member of the German Shepherd Club for 25 years; actively involved in training, showing, breeding and also was an Obedience Instructor for ten years. When asked what has changed in the past 6 years since her last staff snapshot, she laughs and says, “I’ve probably become crazier”.
Receptionist Pam is a veteran at Greencross Vets Balatat, having been here since late 2003. She has a total of 16 years in the veterinary industry, previously working in education for 12 years. She loves meeting the clients, their pets and is always full of smiles and laughter. Married to the man of her life Kelvin or “Kel”, for nearly 41 years, they have 4 sons, 3 daughters-in-law and are blessed with 9 grandchildren, ranging from 13 years to 13 months, whom make her marvel as she watches them grow and develop. When she’s not looking after her grandchildren or working, Pam delights in reading, cooking, gardening and walks with her German Shepherd, “Enya Dog” and Kel. She adores having cappuccinos with her wonderful husband on her days off.
Nikki has been a part of the team for more than 7 years. She considers herself fortunate to be involved in Puppy Preschool classes and helping clients coming to terms with the grief of losing a loved animal as well as “playing” on reception. She is married to Justin and together they have 4 spunky boys – one of them a canine! Family and friends mean the world to Nikki and she deems herself extremely spoilt in this department. Nikki loves the beach, camping, dancing, exercise and of course red wine! She adores the smell of newborn [human] babies and “puppy breath”!!
Melissa or “Melis” as she’s more commonly known at the clinic is no stranger to the Ballarat PeCare family. Having worked at the practice for nearly 7 years, Melissa grew up in Mornington Peninsula and worked for 10 years at a multi-practice branch down there. Looking for a life change she came to Ballarat 9 years ago and now lives on a small farm out of town with her two teenage children. Melissa is currently undertaking certificate III in animal behavioural training. She loves her animals, especially her horses which she has purely for pleasure. She is passionate about dog behaviour & training and is always willing to offer advice to clients with a disobedient canine pal.
A former primary school teacher, Annette decided for a career change at the age of 53. Having bred miniature ponies for over 30 years, she is no stranger to animals. She is one of the newer team members and is currently studying Certificate III in Vet Nursing. A mother of 4 grown children, Annette is also a grandmother of one. Married to her husband, Rob they have a 20-acre farm in Warrenheip. Annette & Rob have a menagerie of animals, ranging from cats and dogs through to miniature ponies and a Galah called “Rory”. Annette is an avid runner; and has run in long distance courses such as the Adelaide Marathon. She enjoys music, and plays piano, guitar and flute; she loves travelling, especially to where her children currently reside in Canada, and snowboarding. She also enjoys the beach, surfing, and of course animals.
“Loo” is the third vet nurse to have the very popular name of Melissa. Having previously worked at Eureka Vet Clinic for 3 years, she has joined our team enthusiastically in 2010. Involved in fly ball for the past 8 years, Loo is no stranger to the world of animals with a menagerie of different breeds and species ranging from dogs, cats and guinea pigs all the away through to 12 fish. Loo has also been involved in the Ballarat Dog Obedience Club for the past 16 years including 5 years instructing and 3 years involved in the committee. When not working Loo also enjoys spending time playing soccer, having played indoor soccer for the past 5 years and recently joined the local women’s outdoor soccer team for the Red Devils. She has two sons aged 10 and 12.
Marie has been grooming with our practice since 2008. She initially started grooming in 1974 when she purchased her first Irish Setter and can say that she truly loves her job. Her interests include all dogs, specifically Irish Setters, which have been her life’s blood since 1974 and she couldn’t imagine her life without a “red”. Marie shows her dogs and is occupied helping out new showers the ropes of showing dogs. She is also involved in preparing dogs for shows and graduating all over Australia. Marie has a daughter, Nicci, and 3 grandsons. When she isn’t showing dogs or working at BPFC, she is the caretaker at Dazzlin’ Doggie Boarding Kennels. Which she admits is heaven for her: dogs, dogs and more dogs. The only thing better would be the day she owned her own boarding kennels.
