Diane is the founder of Ballarat Family PetCare Clinic and the Creswick Family PetCare, now both part of the Greencross group. Having graduated from Melbourne University over 30 years ago, Diane has a wealth of experience as a veterinary practitioner. She also has qualifications in Veterinary Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Diane has spent much of her career in Ballarat and particularly enjoys the close client relationship afforded by working in a smaller practice. She is passionate about providing the highest level of health care for the animal members of your family. A Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne Diane has a keen interest in mentoring veterinary undergraduates and new graduates. She has had many years of involvement with the Australian Veterinary Association and the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board and is a current board member of the Lort Smith Animal Hospital. Her drive, determination and passion make her a successful business owner and a well-known and admired vet in the circle of her staff, colleagues and clientele. Her two children complain that she has more photos of her “fur babies” than them– her gorgeous cats Blaize and Napigel and new baby Ziggy, the Pomeranian cross!
Practice Manager Lyn commenced her career in the Veterinary Industry nearly 36 years ago at the University of Melbourne, Werribee. There she oversaw the Clinic and Hospital's Pharmacy. Her love and empathy for animals and clients saw her go on to achieve her qualifications as a Veterinary Nurse, working in several clinics around Melbourne. Lyn has a passion in the fields of Emergency and Critical care, and Small Animal Medicine. She hopes to eventually continue her love and insatiable appetite for knowledge, and complete her advanced studies in these fields. Lyn joined the dynamic team at Ballarat clinic in August 2004 undertaking a new and challenging role as Office Administrator/Practice Manager. When she is not working, Lyn spends most of her time, along with husband Ron, in Breeding and Showing German Shepherds, and a love of craft work.. A member of the German Shepherd Club for 32 years; actively involved in training, showing, breeding and also was an Obedience Instructor for over ten years. When asked what has changed in the past 6 years since her last staff snapshot, she laughs and says, “I’ve probably become crazier, older and none the wiser!”
Rachel graduated from University of Queensland in 1996, and has worked in both mixed animal and small animal practice in both the UK and Victoria. She settled in Ballarat and joined the Greencross Ballarat family in 2002. She’s passionate about small animal medicine and surgery. Her hobbies include running her small farm complete with cows, sheep, chooks, dogs and cats, which she lives on with her husband Rod, and their 3 children: daughter Ella, and twin sons Sam and John. When not tending to that she enjoys running, gardening, hiking and travelling.
A local Ballarat girl, Dr Rebecca Jennings has returned to rejoin our veterinary team. Bec completed her veterinary degree at Massey University in New Zealand in 2006. She has spent the last couple of years working and travelling abroad. She spent many months working in South Africa, Zambia and Thailand as a volunteer vet working with wildlife, much of it dealing with baboons and other monkeys. She has also garnered much experience in Australia & the UK working in both mixed and small animal practice and is very comfortable working with many of our smaller “babies” like guinea pigs and rabbits. Bec brings valuable skills to our team especially in the area of ultrasonography and medicine. She devotes much of her spare time to renovating her house here in Ballarat.
A Melbourne graduate, Michelle transferred to Ballarat from our Greencross Point Cook practice, providing valuable additional skills to our veterinary team. She has worked in both metropolitan and regional practices and values the close client relationship that our practice promotes. Michelle has great interest in behavioural medicine and is ready to help you find a solution to any behavioural dilemmas that you may encounter with your pet. She is keen to keep up to date with current knowledge and presently is undertaking studies to sit her membership exams in the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. The love of her life is Mason, a handsome smooth collie.
Our youngest member of Ballarat’s veterinary team, Jess is a recent graduate of the University of Queensland. Nevertheless she has many years of veterinary experience behind her, having spent eight years working at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. She loves working in the companion animal field but has a special interest in birds and reptiles. As she says “I love meeting clients and their pets and achieving great outcomes together!” In her spare time Jess enjoys cooking. She shares her life with her tortoise and her tortoiseshell cat, Audrey.
Receptionist Pam is a veteran at Greencross Vets Ballarat, having been here since late 2003. She has a total of 19 years in the veterinary industry, previously working in education for 12 years. She loves meeting the clients, their pets and is always full of smiles and laughter. Married to the man of her life Kelvin or “Kel”, for nearly 44 years, they have 4 sons, 3 daughters-in-law and are blessed with 11 grandchildren, ranging from 15 years to 2 years .She never ceases to marvel as she watches them grow and develop. When she’s not looking after her grandchildren or working, Pam delights in reading, cooking, gardening or out walking with Kel. She also loves travelling overseas (when time permits). Theme Parks and fast rides (she is a real thrill seeker) are another of her great passions.
Nikki has been a part of the team for more than10 years. She considers herself fortunate to be involved in Puppy Preschool classes and helping clients coming to terms with the grief of losing a loved animal as well as “playing” on reception. She is married to Justin and together they have 4 spunky kids! Family and friends mean the world to Nikki and she deems herself extremely spoilt in this department. Nikki loves the beach, camping, dancing, exercise and of course red wine! She adores the smell of newborn [human] babies and “puppy breath”!!
Melissa or “Mel” as she’s known about the place, is originally from Mornington Peninsula where she worked in a mixed animal clinic for many years. She has been with our practice for 10 years now. In that time, she has watched the clinic grow and has enjoyed being part of an increasing team focused on ensuring caring, compassionate and up to date pet care. Melissa has a passion for dog behaviour and training, has undertaken studies in this area and is always happy to offer support and behavioural advice. In her spare time, Mel enjoys spending time out of town on her small farm with her two children, her horses and five dogs.
A former primary school teacher, Annette decided for a career change at the age of 53. Having bred miniature ponies for over 30 years, she is no stranger to animals. Since joining the Greencross team she has completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and microchipping accreditation. A mother of 4 grown children, Annette is now also a grandmother of two. Married to Rob, they have a 20-acre farm in Warrenheip. Annette & Rob have a menagerie of animals, ranging from cats and dogs through to miniature ponies and a Galah called “Rory”. Annette is an avid runner; and has competed in long distance events such as the New York and Paris Marathons. She enjoys music, and plays piano, guitar and flute. Annette loves travelling, snowboarding, the beach, surfing, and of course animals. Whew!
Don’t be fooled by Lauren’s youthful appearance. One of our youngest qualified nurses, Lauren is extremely knowledgeable and competent in her quiet unassuming way. Her love of animals & her job is evident in everything she does. Lauren is a local girl from Warrenheip and has always been surrounded by animals. She gained her qualifications as a veterinary nurse in Melbourne and joined the Greencross group in Ballarat shortly afterwards. She loves dancing and spending time at
Megan has a wealth of experience having worked as a veterinary nurse in many practices throughout Australia. She has left her family and their farm in Swan Hill to join our nursing team. Megan is currently undertaking her studies to complete her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing. With a mischievous sense of humour, she manages to brighten up everyone’s day – staff and clients alike. She has many skills but especially loves dentistry and surgery. Most of her pets are back home in Swan Hill so she has to suffice with her guinea pigs and her gorgeous new ginger kitty. Megan enjoys karate, badminton and eating chocolate!
Melissa (affectionately known as Loo) is another of our valuable nurses here at Ballarat. Having previously worked at Eureka Vet Clinic for 3 years, she enthusiastically joined our team in 2010. Involved in fly ball for the past 11 years, Loo is no stranger to the world of animals. At the moment she has 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 hermit crabs and a cockatiel ! Whew! Loo has also been involved in the Ballarat Dog Obedience Club for the past 18 years including 5 years instructing and 3 years involved in the committee. When not working, Loo also enjoys spending time playing soccer. She has two teenage sons aged 13 and 15.
Marie has been grooming with our practice since 2008. She initially started grooming in 1974 when she purchased her first Irish Setter and can say that she truly loves her job. Her interests include all dogs, especially Irish Setters, which have been her life’s blood since 1974 and she couldn’t imagine her life without a “red”. Marie shows her dogs and is often occupied helping others learn the ropes of showing dogs. She is also involved in preparing dogs for shows and graduating all over Australia. Marie has a daughter, Nicci, and grandchildren. She manages the busy Dazzlin’ Doggie Boarding Kennels on Woodman’s Hill, a facility she admits is heaven for all dogs.
Ashley is thrilled to commence her school based traineeship with us in early 2013. She is doing her VCE course at Loretto College and looks forward to fulfilling her dream of being a fully qualified veterinary nurse one day soon. Although much of her spare time is consumed by her studies, Ashley enjoys music including playing the guitar, reading, writing, cooking and ,of course, animals!
