In the lead up to Christmas, it's important that your pet’s identification details are current and correct. This includes their I/D tag, council registration and microchip. Without identification, it's near impossible to reunite a pet with its rightful owner. Follow the link to learn more about microchip identification http://bit.ly/petmicrochipping

Meet Tommy, the three year old Eclectus Parrot. Recently, Tommy flew away from home and was missing for a week. Luckily he was found by a family who brought him into our Springvale clinic. Upon arrival, he appeared very weak and dehydrated. Tommy was in need of some intensive care and was given IV fluids, crop feeding and a dose of antibiotics. Vet nurse Jess took Tommy home for a few days to continue his treatment. In the meantime, Tommy’s pet parents were doing everything in their power to locate him and fortunately responded to an advert that we had posted on www.parrotalert.com.

Tommy was delighted to be reunited with his owners, he greeted them with lots of kisses. Before Tommy went home he was microchipped so that if he ever decided to take another adventure he can be scanned and reunited quickly and safely with his family.

Lots of people don’t realise that birds can be microchipped just like dogs and cats. It’s a quick procedure where the microchip is inserted into the breast muscle.
